The G.L.
Watson Archive
G. L. Watson & Co. have extensive archives
dating back 130 years. The vast majority of these are
plans of yachts designed by the firm.
Typically these include Lines, Rigging, Accommodation
Plans and others, subject to yacht type.
Additionally, we hold detailed designs and
specifications for some of the yachts designed by the
firm, as well as a vast collection of photographs
dating back to the 1870s. Included in the archive is
material that does not relate to Watson-designed boats
but reflecting the firm's many spheres of activity
such as the America's Cup and yacht brokerage.
Much of the archive material held by the firm has
never left its ownership. However, the value of
historic material has not always been appreciated and
over time some material has been allowed out of the
company. We have been successful in recovering a great
deal of that material and are actively seeking to
trace missing items.
